I am now a black belt in Hapkido

In the martial arts world, it’s kind of like graduating kindergarten. But I’m still pretty happy that I can join the ranks of my daughters. It was a morning of physical challenges (like 700 jumping jacks, a 2- mile run), then doing the forms we’d learned. We had to demonstrate our knowledge of techniques – 5 for each belt for a total of 45 – and then break five boards (not all at once). I’m tired and sore, but I feel pretty good.

Next page penciled!

I want to somehow work a bit more humor into my stories. The funeral dirge atmosphere does seem a bit much sometimes, but David is such a somber character that I don’t want to change his nature.

A bit of fantasy

I’m doing a library program this summer where I talk about drawing fantasy figures. The library asked if I had any samples they could use in a program, and I realized that I don’t! I usually draw on a white board or on paper that I give away to the kids. So I had a little fun.

Glad it’s Friday

Oh boy, busy week. I have started inking the next page, however I’m also setting up the tent for the Mystery Writers at Printers Row. I should be able to update this weekend, but not tonight. We’re going to see “Back to the Future” on the big screen at a local movie theater tonight!

Great time at ACEN

Had a great time at ACEN this weekend. Met lots of great people and hung out with Dirk Tiede and Brian BMAN Babendererde Didn’t just sell books, though. Finished pencils for page 145 and started on the next page after that. Here’s a preview: Should have a new page up by Wednesday latest. Finally, there’s a new interview up with me, via War Kitten Review. UPDATE: Ok, didn’t make THAT deadline. But I just uploaded a new page for tomorrow!

Big book delivery tomorrow

I’m getting 13 of the last of approximately 20 boxes of “Cash & Carry” delivered tomorrow. FedEx would just leave them on the porch, so I’m going to be home for the day. They’ll deliver sometime between 8 am and 8 pm, so remember that next rime you’re complaining about the cable guy. Now I just have to figure out where to put them. I’l be at ACEN in a few weeks. Stop by my table and help me get rid of boxes!

Cartooning in 2001

After the towers fell, I remember being in a yahoo group where people questioned if what we were doing – drawing cartoons on the internet – was appropriate anymore. I said that not only was it appropriate but that it was necessary. We were attacked because of how we lived and what we were free to do. It sounds like bin Laden spent the last few years of his life unable to live as he liked and without much freedom. Ironically, if he had lived Read More +

End of the beginning

So the the good news is that Karen Syed at Echelon Press is giving me a terrific deal on the remaining copies of “Cash & Carry.” The even better news is it’s only because she’s moving to Florida and she doesn’t want to have move anything she doesn’t have to. So we’re still in Business together, and the book is still going to be in print, available from me, Echelon and Amazon. The best news is Karen’s going to help me bring “Something to build Read More +
