Saturday, Kathy and I joined daughters E and N to watch black-belt testing at their school. We went about 1 pm, after all the endurance portion was over and they were beginning the form and technique testing. Very cool stuff. The girls are inspired to continue their training – they’re going for their blue belts next. New STBU page today, and new COTR page tomorrow.
And now, via The Beat, a rebuttal (of sorts) to the 12-year-old girl demographic’s view of the comic shop by the seven-year-old boy demographic. I’m sure you’ll be shocked at what you’ll find. For another perspective, All Ages Read has been doing this for a while.
I took daughters E and N, along with their friend G, to Chicago Comics – one of the best shops in Illinois IMHO. It’s not the “oh boy let’s go!” experience that it used to be, because the girls have been kind of disappointed in the offerings. They’re 12-years-old – almost 13 – and they need no prodding to read. A bit late, but hey, I’m on vacation this week. Check out the new page for “Children of the Revolution.” Plus, “Something to build upon” continues too.
This is my family’s dog Fritz. We adopted him from the pound about two years ago. At first, he seemed very docile. Then, his true nature came out – nuts. As daughter E says “Fritz doesn’t do multi-tasking.” But after all this time, he’s our dog and I’ll chronicle our lives with him on this blog.
Tonight’s “Anime Elite” drawing group has been moved from the Hanover Park branch to the Central Schaumburg library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg IL. It’s from 7 -8 pm – stop by if you can..
Well, that was exciting. Power eventually came back on at 3 am, but before that we had high winds and tons of thunder and lightning. Lots of downed trees in the Chicago area. But, we’re OK. New STBU tomorrow.
I’m sitting here in candle-light typing this out on my iPhone. There’s no power in the neighborhood and so there will be no update tomorrow. We are fine but there is a lot of severe weather right now. Lightning, thunder and rain. Hope everyone is OK. NOTE: Due to spam, comments on this thread are now closed
- The latest page for Lost Child is up - Added some new events, including the signing at the Naperville Barnes & Noble on September 4 (which, coincidentally, is my birthday). - Updated the About page with links to all my published books and the Thrilling Detective listing on David Diangelo
Looks like I missed out on the gravytrain that was WOWIO. Reports are that the ad-supported downloads have been replaced with prepaid downloads. Just as well. Something about that setup struck me as unsustainable. Still, would have been nice to have some of that (mmm, startup money …)
